Last time we were there an employee walked out with a snake and was available to answer questions and let the children pet the snake. In addition to the great hands-on activities and I-Max, there are animal demonstrations and special demonstrations going on throughout the day. We've had family memberships to Discovery Place for several years and always enjoy our visits. Other things my boys really like are the bed of nails, and the chair pulleys.Īlso, they have a wonderful organic snack bar that has some really yummy things there! The sweet potato fries are a favorite! We love this museum so much, we travel over an hour just to get there!Īlmost everything in the museum is hands on, which my boys, ages 8 & 5, love! Our favorite things are the touch tank and the Science demonstrations. The rest of the museum is geared toward much older children, but highly interactive. My children loved the water play and the wind tunnel. Love that they have a section for younger children. The creators of Discovery Place are inventive, encouraging, and understand children. My memories are outdated as it has been several years since we visited, but I loved the drawers of specimens of butterflies and insects, the experiments that you were encouraged to try, the beauty of the building, and the friendly staff. A child (or adult) can explore their own particular bent to his/her heart's content. You see, hear, touch, and do science here. You can spend weeks here and never get bored. I wish we lived close to a place like this. The hands-on exhibits really help our son understand more about science, and he can connect what he reads in a book to what he sees at Discovery Place. It has a room just for our younger pre-k children, but lots of activities for our first grader. We love coming to Discovery Place at least once a year. We plan on purchasing a membership soon so that we can make this a regular part of our homeschooling experience. They have great rotating displays and some really educational permanant displays as well. The prices for admission and the movie are reasonable. They have a wonderful IMAX dome theatre that is always playing fun and educational movies. We have been to the Discovery Place several times in the last few years and it is always an exciting destination. They have a dedicated section for younger children which was especially nice. Love, love, love this museum! It is almost entirely interactive which my busy son loves. With classes for three different age groups offered at the same time, siblings can come to Discovery Place together and all enjoy a unique, curriculum enriching experience.
